The work we build on, and who did it.
Prior art
- TSLPatcherby stoffe
The installer most KotOR mods ship with. kotor-formats is strict by default and accepts what TSLPatcher accepts.
- nwnnsscompby Torlack (Edward T. Smith)
Torlack's NWScript compiler from Neverwinter Nights. Modified builds of it still compile KotOR scripts, and TSLPatcher ships with one.
- KotOR Toolby Fred Tetra
An editor for 2DA tables, scripts, templates and modules. Fred Tetra started it to experiment with 2DA files and scripts.
- DeNCSby JdNoa and Dashus
Turns compiled NCS scripts back into NSS source. JdNoa wrote the decompiler and Dashus the interface. The decompiler in kotor-ncs builds on its algorithm.
- MDLOps and kotorblenderby Chuck Chargin Jr., ndix UR and seedhartha
MDLOps converts KotOR's binary models to text and back. Chuck Chargin Jr. wrote it and ndix UR took it to 1.0. kotorblender imports and exports the same models in Blender. It is a fork of Purifier and ndix UR's KotORBlender, which grew out of Symmetric's NeverBlender.
- xoreos
An open-source reimplementation of BioWare's Aurora engine and its descendants. KotOR is one of the games it targets.
- K1SE and K2SEby TheMMN (K1SE) and Renan Macena (K2SE)
Script extenders that add new NWScript functions to the Steam builds of KotOR and TSL. K1SE is on Deadly Stream and K2SE is on GitHub.
Communities
- Deadly Stream
Where KotOR modding lives: files, forums, works in progress, and a culture that takes credit and permissions seriously.
- LucasForums Archive Project
For keeping the modding boards where most of the original KotOR tools and knowledge were built.
- KOTOR Community Portal
Curated mod builds. A lot of players learned how to mod these games properly from them.
- r/kotor
Twenty years on and still arguing about Revan. Long may it continue.
- Nexus Mods
A second home for KotOR and TSL mods, and for the people who make them.
- NWNX
The Neverwinter Nights extender community showed how far a script extender on a BioWare engine can go.
- The decompilation community
decomp.dev, decomp.me, Decompedia and the teams behind them showed that matching decompilation of a whole game is achievable, and that progress can be public.
